God's heart longs for the Muslim people, the children of Ishmael, to know Him. In the Torah, He tells us the touching story of Abraham sending Hagar and Ishmael out into the desert. They soon ran out of water and were dying of thirst. Ishmael cried out to God, and his mother, unable to watch him die, left him in the shade of a bush then sat down some distance away to weep.

“Then the Angel of God … said to her, 'What ails you, Hagar? Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the lad…' Then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. And she went and filled the skin with water, and gave the lad a drink” (Genesis 21:17-19 NKJV).

Four thousand years later, the people of Ishmael are in a spiritual wilderness, and their thirst has intensified. They're dying of thirst, unable to see the well of living water. But God is going to hear their cry, open their eyes, and show them the well that they may drink and have life. The name Ishmael means “God hears,” and indeed God hears the cries of Ishmael's children today. God promises, “I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts” (Revelation 21:6 NKJV).
